Uluru is the largest single rock in the world and the second largest monolith, a sacred site for Australian Aborigines. It lies within the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park and its formation is thought to have begun about 550 million years ago.
Uluru is intended to celebrate Australian culture by means of textiles that reproduce the works painted by the native Australian communities, traditionally created with thousands of stitches and executed in the traditional way with hundreds of hours of work to fill the entire background.
The motifs come from original paintings purchased directly from the artists with the aim of maintaining and promoting Australian Aboriginal art. The dots symbolise stars, sparks, scorched earth, to bring back the connection of the land to the ancestral world from which everything originated.
This particular design is by Taya Price, an Aboriginal designer from a family of artists in Utopia, northern Australia.
